I was proud to lead the cross party work on an Independent Complaints and Grievance Scheme when I was Leader of the House of Commons in 2017/8.

We created an independent, confidential scheme and a new behaviour code to ensure everyone in Parliament is treated with dignity and respect.

However, there are real concerns with how ICGS is now working, including timeliness of investigations, and the interference of other Parly bodies, that have damaged its credibility.

I met with the new Director, Thea Walton, yesterday to discuss her plans to improve the ICGS, and I also urged the Leader of the House today to make sure the upcoming review will get it back on track.
