Early Years Visit to Cornwall

Early Years Visit to Cornwall

As Chairman of the Early Years Healthy Development Review I have visited several local authority areas over the past few months to see the work underway to implement the Best Start for Life vision.

One visit was to Cornwall, where I joined Cherilyn Mackrory, MP for Truro and Falmouth to meet with Cornwall Council and learn more about their ‘Early Help Service’ work. During the visit, we were joined by Cllr Ellenbroek (Portfolio Holder on Cornwall Council for Children and Families) and Meredith Teasdale (Strategic Director Together For Families on Cornwall Council).

We met team members from WILD, who work closely with Cornwall Council children’s service to provide young families with the support they need. The project helps parents with practical parenting and skills and provides a space to make friends with other young parents and share experiences.

Later in the day we met team members helping to deliver the Best Start for Life vision including the Together for Families Cornwall staff and the team at Dadpad – a new app developed with the NHS to give dads the knowledge and skills needed to gain confidence and give their baby the best start in life.
