Towcester Remembrance Garden

It was a privilege to attend the dedication of the Remembrance Garden in Towcester on Saturday.

Honouring the memory of those members of the Armed Forces who have given their lives in defence of our freedoms and values, it was very moving to stand alongside other representatives from the community and consider the sacrifices of those who have gone before us. The new Remembrance Garden is situated to the front of St Lawrence Church, and incorporates a Poppy Cascade, paintings of soldiers and of poppy fields; we also had the opportunity to see the “There But Not There” silhouettes that have been given to us for the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.

Students at schools in Towcester and members of the WI have helped to make the poppies, and I understand that the paintings of the soldiers and of the poppy fields were done by students at Sponne. The beautiful garden was created by the hard-work of the WI. I would strongly encourage everyone to stop by and pause for a moment or two, to pay their respects to our honoured dead.
