A5 Repairs Update

Many constituents have been in touch with me about the poor state of the A5 near Paulerspury. Following pressure from local residents and myself, I am pleased to update constituents that safety improvement works will be taking place on the carriageway, beginning the 13th February.

This will include:

➡️ Resurfacing of the A5,

➡️ Installing coloured high friction surfacing and road markings,

➡️ Replacing existing signs with new signs,

➡️ Clearing and removing vegetation

In order to facilitate this work there will be a series of planned roadworks from the 13th February to the beginning of March. A full closure of the A5 from the Old Stratford Roundabout to the Tove Roundabout in either direction will be required during 8pm to 6am, Monday to Friday from 13th February. A diversion route will be in place.

During a similar time frame, road closures will be in place to facilitate the work for the SRFI at Northampton Gateway. This affects the A508, and a diversion route will be in place from the Old Stratford roundabout on the A508 to the M1 J15, with non HGV’s required to use the M1 to J15a and back to the A43. HGVs are required to use the A45, A5706, A5123 and the A43.

I am concerned on behalf of local road users about the risk of both the A5 and the A508 being closed at the same time! I have raised this concern with the developers of the SRFI and with National Highways, and will be seeking their confirmation that this will not be the case.

Further information on these closures and the continuing programme of work can be found here: https://slp-northampton.com/community/traffic-travel/

As ever, I will continue to raise any concerns from constituents with National Highways, West Northamptonshire Council and SEGRO about this issue. Please email me at andrea.leadsom.mp@parliament.uk if you have a concern you would like me to pass on.
