Salcey Forest Update

Many constituents have contacted me about the continued closure of the Tree Top Way in Salcey Forest. The Tree Top Way has been closed for some time due to concerns over the structure’s safety.

I have written to Lord Goldsmith, Minister of State for the Environment who confirms that Forestry England hopes to re-open the Tree Top Way in the future, subject to alterations recommended by structural engineers.

For this to happen, further planning and funding needs to take place. Very disappointingly, due to the impact of Coronavirus and pressures on funding, investment in the region of £300,000-£350,000 that had been allocated to undertake this work has had to be withdrawn. The Minister and Forestry England cannot confirm when this will be reinstated.

Salcey Forest and the Tree Top Way is an important part of the local community, and particularly as we ease out of lockdown, its role in promoting health and wellbeing will be more important than ever. I am sure that you will share my disappointment in this news, and I will continue to press Forestry England and DEFRA for this funding to be re-instated.
